Band vs cup: measure both

Band size (the number) is your ribcage measurement plus 4 inches if it's an odd number. Cup size (the letter) is the difference between your bust and band. These two numbers together are a starting point — not a guarantee. Fit depends on the cut, the fabric, and the silhouette of the specific piece.

Check the stretch rating

Microfiber and jersey stretch 30–40% — they forgive a half-size difference. Satin and mesh stretch less. Lace varies by weave. If a brand lists the fabric and you're between sizes, go up on anything with less stretch.

Read the reviews for sizing notes

Skip the star rating and read the text. Real customers note whether it runs small, whether the straps dig in, whether the elastic is tight at the legs. Aggregate those notes across five or more reviews and you'll know what to order.
